I build businesses. I write the stories that keep you up at 3am.
I'm Alvin Huang.
I grew up at Block 512 Bedok North. Four of us shared one bedroom, because the other two rooms were rented out to help pay off the flat.
In 2004 I started selling things on eBay. Twenty two years later, I run Truegenics, a health and skincare company built from Singapore with no investors and a team of more than 70 people.
In 2020 it nearly went under. I restructured twice and rebuilt it.
Business taught me a lot. But the things that stay with me were never in a spreadsheet. They're the words I didn't say to the people I love, and the ones I said too sharply.
So I started writing about them. Stories about the moments that come back to you at 3am, when you suddenly think of your mother, or the brother you haven't called since the quarrel.
One was about a family who couldn't sit together at dinner. Thousands of people replied, "That's my family." That story became my first novel, The Table.
If you've ever lain awake thinking about someone you love, these stories are for you.
I still run my companies every day. This is the work I'd do for free.
I already do.
